Within 12 months from launching in Japan, HIVEX successfully achieved full coverage for Taiwanese travelers. Nearly every consumption scenario for Taiwanese travelers in Japan now supports HIVEX’s cross-border mobile payment service. Based on HIVEX’s internal data, the proportion of Taiwanese travelers using mobile payments in Japan has significantly increased, demonstrating the huge potential of cross-border mobile payments in the travel market. Building on its success in Japan, HIVEX is now turning its attention to South Korea. By integrating with South Korea’s electronic payment systems, HIVEX expects to achieve full coverage in South Korea in a shorter time frame. This expansion plan will not only further enhance the HIVEX travelers’ payment experience in South Korea but is also expected to promote the adoption of cross-border payments in the South Korean market.

iPASS, one of the most popular e-wallets in Taiwan, announced that it has joined the HIVEX Network. At the same press conference in Taipei, iPASS announced participation in the 2025 World Expo in Osaka Kansai Japan. Now that iPASS is enabled by the HIVEX Network, iPASS’ 6.5 million users will be able to make purchases in Japan using their iPASS Money e-wallet.

The HIVEX Network commercially launched on October 2, 2023. It has been a tremendous year — achieving double-digit % market share of Taiwan’s mobile wallet transactions in Japan; Zero fraud; and Zero downtime. TBCASoft celebrated the anniversary with fintech partners including SoftBank’s PayPay Corp., JKOPAY, PXPay Plus, E.SUN Bank and ICB (Korea). ICB is set to enable HIVEX cross-border transactions in S. Korea.

At TBCASoft’s first press conference, Ling Wu, Founder & CEO unveiled the transformative potential of HIVEX for QR-code Mobile Payment Service Providers (MPSP) and their users. He was joined by some of our strategic investors including Far EasTone (Taiwan), NAVER Financial (S.Korea) and SoftBank (Japan). Also participating was our initial wave of MPSP members joining HIVEX including PayPay from Japan; and JKOPAY, PXPay Plus and E.SUN Bank from Taiwan.

TBCASoft, with its HIVEX solution, is creating the largest interoperable QR payment network in the APAC region that is available to all MNOs and Mobile Payment Service Providers (MPSPs):

• For MNOs: HIVEX enables them to leverage their strengths (network, security, users) to become a fintech super app for transactions in the real world and/or metaverse.

• For MPSPs: HIVEX enables seamless integration with other service providers (e-wallets, merchant networks) to bypass the expensive and lengthy barriers to achieving scale, especially across borders.

TBCASoft has a new ‘HIVEX Finance’ layer that gives financial institutions (e.g., banks) a new way to participate in the HIVEX Network mobile payment solution. The financial institutions can now provide integrated services such as foreign currency exchange to the HIVEX Network members (e.g., mobile operators, merchants) that may not have the expertise and may want to focus on the other parts of the mobile payment process. Additionally, this option can speed-up the HIVEX launch process and simplify regulatory review for some mobile service providers.

This conference focused on the importance of solid, cross-country digital financial strategies for the LatAm region. CCPS is an ideal solution as an open mobile payment network which interconnects siloed networks, carriers, payment providers, consumers and merchants through a secure, decentralized technology that facilitates instant transaction clearing and settlement.

IBM and TBCASoft published a joint white paper. COVID-19 is accelerating consumer preference for contactless payments and Mobile Service Providers are ideally positioned. Service Providers should launch contactless payment services enabled by TBCASoft’s Cross Carrier Payment System and join the CBSG Consortium that greatly expands the user and merchant base for their payment service — it accelerates the network effect to a global scale.
